Here's a short summary of Neon Genesis Evangelion:

People want Shinji to get in the giant robot powered by his mom's tortured soul so that he can fight giant monsters that very frequently nearly kill him outright. Shinji is 14 and has already nearly died several times. Shinji thinks maybe he'd like to run away instead. Shinji is coerced into getting in the robot by being desperate for his father's approval/sad looking bandaged girls/just plain giving up. Shinji nearly dies again. Any downtime is spent discovering that girls exist and are incomprehensible. Hedgehogs are used as metaphors.

Then Human Instrumenality starts and Shinji finds himself at the core of the entire world melting into a single entity. He does not take this very well.

Somewhere in there he discovers that guys exist too and are equally incomprehensible and sometimes world-destroying monsters. He doesn't take this well either.

Last but not least, give us your character's standard "holy shit, I woke up in a mysterious world for no apparent reason! What the shit is going on!?" intro post.
